Introduced in 1952 and closely related to the military 7.62x51mm NATO, the .308 works in short-action rifles and has one of the largest selections of factory loads.
It is accurate, efficient and powerful enough for nearly all deer hunting in the East and much of the West. Recoil is moderate. New rifles like Henry’s H14 Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine put it in a handy lever gun.
Always use only the ammunition marked on your firearm’s barrel or slide, and follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
