Diamondback’s Florida-Made DB15 Swamp Stalker Is a Sports South Exclusive

Diamondback Firearms has rolled out a camo-finished DB15 carbine sold only through distributor Sports South. Here is what you get for the $1,216 MSRP and who this rifle makes sense for.

Diamondback Firearms, which builds its rifles in Cocoa, Florida, has released a new version of its DB15 carbine wearing a hand-applied camouflage finish called Swamp Stalker. As first reported by The Firearm Blog, the rifle is an exclusive for Sports South, a firearms distributor, so most buyers will get it by asking a local dealer who orders from that distributor.

It is a 5.56 carbine at heart, but the finish and furniture give it a look that should appeal to Southern hunters and range shooters alike.

What You Get

According to The Firearm Blog and Diamondback’s own product page, the Swamp Stalker is built on the company’s DB15 Carbon platform. The main features:

  • Caliber and barrel: 5.56 NATO with a 16-inch, medium-profile 4150 chrome-moly-vanadium barrel, 1:8 twist, black nitride under an FDE Cerakote.
  • Operating system: Carbine-length direct impingement gas system.
  • Receivers: Forged 7075-T6 aluminum upper (A3 flattop) and lower.
  • Bolt carrier: Mil-spec 8620 steel carrier, shot-peened and magnetic-particle inspected.
  • Handguard: 15-inch anti-rotation M-LOK rail with a full-length Picatinny top and QD sling mounts.
  • Furniture: B5 Systems Bravo stock, P-Grip 23 pistol grip and vertical grip, all in Multicam.
  • Muzzle: A2 flash hider on standard 1/2×28 threads.
  • Trigger: Standard mil-spec.
  • Weight and length: 6.5 pounds, 32 inches collapsed and 35.5 inches extended.

It ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG and a Savior Equipment Specialist single rifle case in OD green. It comes without sights. Diamondback lists the MSRP at $1,216, SKU DB175AK622, and notes dealer prices may vary.

About That Finish

The selling point here is the camo. Rather than a dip or a simple wrap, the Swamp Stalker pattern is laid down in Cerakote using precision-cut stencils, hand-laid patterns and individually sprayed layers, according to the TFB report. Diamondback COO Alicia McCabe told TFB the finish “is built the right way.”

Cerakote is a thin, baked ceramic coating that holds up better to scratches, sweat and humidity than most paint jobs. For anyone who hunts or shoots in wet, muggy Southern weather, a durable finish is a practical feature, not just a cosmetic one.

Who This Rifle Fits

A long M-LOK rail, a standard 1:8 twist and a light 6.5-pound weight make the Swamp Stalker a flexible rifle. A few ways GUN Crusade readers might put it to work:

  • Hog and predator hunting: The full-length top rail has room for a scope, red dot, thermal or night vision optic, and the camo finish blends into brush and marsh.
  • Home and ranch defense: A 16-inch carbine with a vertical grip is easy to control, and the rail has room for a weapon light.
  • General range use: It is a straightforward direct-impingement AR that takes common magazines and parts.

There are trade-offs to weigh. You will need to budget for an optic or iron sights, since none come in the box, and the mil-spec trigger is serviceable but not a match trigger. At an MSRP of $1,216, you are paying partly for the finish, the B5 furniture and the case. Shoppers who don’t care about camo can find plain-finish carbines for less.

How to Get One

Because it is a distributor exclusive, the easiest route is to ask your local gun shop whether it orders from Sports South, and to request the SKU listed above. The TFB report did not give a ship date, so ask your dealer about availability and the actual sale price before you put money down.

GUN Crusade’s take (opinion): It is good to see a Florida-built rifle aimed squarely at the kind of hunting many of our readers do. If you have been wanting an AR that looks at home in the swamp and you plan to add your own optic, this one is worth a look at your dealer’s counter.
