Hornady has announced SBR Suppressed Supersonic as part of its 2027 product lineup. The company describes factory ammunition developed around the pressure and velocity demands of compact, suppressed platforms, with propellants intended to reduce fouling.

Those are manufacturer claims, not results from a GUN Crusade range test. Availability can vary as the new products reach distribution.

Four announced loads

Cartridge Bullet Item number Listed muzzle velocity Test barrel
5.56 NATO 73-grain ELD Match 81244 2,425 fps 11.5 inches
6mm ARC 108-grain ELD Match 81614 2,620 fps 18 inches
.300 Blackout 178-grain ELD Match 81013 1,650 fps 8 inches
.308 Winchester 178-grain ELD Match 81053 2,260 fps 13 inches

These figures come from Hornady’s individual product pages. Note the 18-inch test barrel for 6mm ARC: readers should not assume every advertised figure represents the same short barrel. Actual velocity depends on the firearm and conditions. Each listed package contains 20 rounds; no manufacturer price was established in this review.

Suppressed does not mean subsonic

The word Supersonic is part of the line’s name. Even the 178-grain .300 Blackout offering is listed as supersonic. These products should not be confused with Hornady’s separate Subsonic line, and the name does not promise silent shooting or eliminate the need for hearing protection.

A suppressor and a shorter barrel can change a firearm’s operating conditions. A product announcement alone cannot establish reliability, sound reduction or accuracy in someone else’s firearm. Match bullets also should not automatically be treated as hunting bullets merely because the cartridge is familiar.

Read the current legal guidance

ATF’s October 9, 2026 policy changed enforcement of specified NFA requirements for certain firearms and suppressors; it did not repeal the NFA or override state law. Read the agency’s current guidance and our earlier NFA coverage for context. Any ownership or transfer decision requires checking the rules applicable to the location and item.
